LONGCHAMP X ROBERT INDIANA

AN ICONIC WORK OF ART MEETS A UNIVERSALLY LOVED BAG

Longchamp is pleased to present Longchamp x Robert Indiana, a tribute to the American artist, featuring Indiana's evocative LOVE artwork on its iconic Le Pliage® bag.
Celebrating shared values of graphic simplicity, inventive design and optimistic colors, the collection combines the emotional resonance of Indiana's universal message with the appeal of Longchamp's Le Pliage® bag.

“Love is universal, it’s a positive message that is understood all over the world, and I liked the idea of reproducing this message on Le Pliage®, a universally loved bag.”

declares Sophie Delafontaine, creative director of Longchamp and granddaughter of the founder.

LOVE

Robert Indiana played a central role in the development of assemblage art, hard-edge painting, and Pop Art with works that explore American identity and the power of language. Indiana's LOVE image, with its stacked format, originated in 1964 from a series of frottage drawings that Indiana created and sent to friends. The artist then developed his concept through a series of paintings, sculptures and prints, which made LOVE an icon of 20th century art and one of the most recognizable works of art in the world.

The capsule includes the LOVE image reproduced in three colors adapted from Indiana's original works, on the Le Pliage® canvas travel bag, the shoulder bag and the clutch, as well as on two new square versions of the bag, the one the size of a shopping bag, the other the size of a mini crossbody bag. For the leather part of the collection, Le Pliage® in cowhide leather in its XS version is embossed with the LOVE image in three monochrome colors. The emblem also appears on a cowhide leather key ring and printed in red on a white cotton T-shirt and a gray cotton sweatshirt, both in unisex style. A silk scarf pays homage to Indiana's fascination with numerology, with its brightly colored numbers.
